Forbes Ranks Most Valuable NFL Teams
With the kickoff of the new football season, Forbes has once again, released its much anticipated valuation list of Most Valuable NFL Teams. Â
How the numbers stack up gives a very interesting view inside the most valuable professional sports league on earth. According to the Forbes data as reported by Pressboxonline.com, the average NFL team increased in value by 5 percent. Interestingly, winning the Super Bowl only adds about an additional 1 percent to a team’s value. This is largely due to the operating structure of the NFL, the variance of national revenues and the sometimes limited revenue from local markets. It seems the Super Bowl isn’t all that important, since the top team raked in over $2.3 billion and hasn’t even reached the sport’s title game in 17 years. The other teams weren’t even close to this total. Valuing an NFL team is an art unto itself. Check out the story for a fascinating look at how the numbers are put together.
“The league splits all national revenue equally among its 32 teams, and credits the genius of the late NFL commissioner, Pete Rozelle for the reason that each team can expect nearly $200 million in revenue from national television contracts alone.”
